IMMIGRATION
Congressman Lungren believes that a primary attribute of sovereignty
is reflected in the ability of a nation to control its borders. Article
1, Sec. 8 of the United States Constitution places this responsibility
on the Congress. It is therefore imperative that the Congress fully
fund the 2000 additional border patrol officers for each of the next
five years. In order to de-magnetize the attraction of unlawful employment,
it is necessary to enforce employer sanctions. This will require
the use of a tamper proof form of identification. Any temporary worker
program for agriculture must in fact be for jobs which are in fact
temporary and not a disguised amnesty.
CRIME
Congressman Lungren believes that the purpose of government itself
is based on a social compact to protect our citizens from violence.
Those who commit crime must face the certainty of punishment. Crime
victims and their families are entitled to be treated with dignity
and respect in the criminal justice process. Congressman Lungren's
proposals to limit the abuse of the criminal appeals process have
been enacted into law in the 109th Congress and he is committed to
continue the fight on behalf of those who have been victimized by
crime.
HOMELAND SECURITY
Congressman Lungren returned to Congress in order to help fight
the war against terrorism. His experience gained as the Attorney
General of California and as a former Member of Congress provide
him with unique qualifications for this task. Congressman Lungren
played a central role in the reenactment of the PATRIOT Act and is
the author of the SAFE Port Act, and a federal death penalty for
those who commit acts of terrorism where there is a loss of human
life. In his capacity as the Chairman of the Economic Security, Infrastructure
Protection & Cybersecurity Subcommittee of the Homeland Security
Committee, Congressman Lungren has worked tirelessly to protect the
American people. |
