Dan Lungren
Represents California's 3rd Congressional District, which includes parts of Sacramento and Solano
Counties, as well as the
entire counties of Alpine, Amador, and Calaveras.
Dan graduated in 1968
from the University of Notre Dame with honors in English. He then returned to California
to begin his law studies at the University
of Southern California,
and later transferred to Georgetown
University
Law
Center
from which he earned his JD in 1971.
Dan won his first
elected office in 1978. He defeated the
two-term incumbent winning California's
34th Congressional seat.
For ten years, Dan
served in the U.S. Congress where he was viewed as a Republican leader in
criminal justice and immigration issues.
In 1988, Dan was
called back to California by then
Governor George Deukmejian to replace the late Jesse Unruh as State Treasurer. Though appointed by Deukmejian, Dan was never
confirmed by California's
Democratically controlled State Legislature.
In 1990, Dan ran and
was elected Attorney General of California.
He served eight years as Attorney General and was instrumental in
reducing crime in California. Dan helped author California's Three Strikes Law, and Megan's Law.
After the events of
9-11, Dan felt compelled to return to public service. Because of this, he made
the decision to run for California's
3rd Congressional District. On November
2, 2004, Dan Lungren was elected back to Congress.
Dan
and his wife Bobbi have three adult children: Jeff, Kelly, and Kathleen, and
three grandchildren Reagan Maria, Julia Elizabeth, and Jack Joseph.
